Radium Treatment For Prostate Cancer

Radium Treatment For Prostate Cancer

I have heard of something called Radium Treatment For Prostate Cancer.  Make no mistakes it is not radiation treatment, but Radium 223.  It is making headlines all over the medical world and could be one of the newest and best ways to treat this disease.  It can really help ease the bone-pain, and other horrid symptoms that accompany HRPC.

I am trying to find out more information on Radium Treatment For Prostate Cancer, because my husband's grandfather, and father were both diagnosed with prostate cancer, and I am worried that he will one day get it.  I know that if it is caught early enough, the odds of beating it are greatly reduced, but I would still like to keep my options open.

I did find out that Radium Treatment For Prostate Cancer is a bone targeting treatment.  It is working very well for those who have Hormone Refractory prostate cancer, because those patients tend to have a lot of bone-pain,Radium Treatment For Prostate Cancer has shown to significantly reduce those symptoms.  Which is great for them, because along with dealing with treatment the last thing you would want is more pain in the bones.

It is still in the early stages, and there is a lot of testing going on, but someday in the near future Radium Treatment For Prostate Cancer could be the best way to fight off this disease.  Who knows maybe even one day we'll cure it.  I read up on a few of the studies and came out with some very interesting information.

In one particular study that I found there were 64 patients with HRPC and were set up to receive 4 of the infusions of radium-223 or a plain placebo at 4 week intervals. These studies reported that bone alkaline phosphatase levels were decreased by 66% in the selectees that received the radium-223.  Take that and compare it to the placebo selectees and they had a 9% increase. There was a 14 month window for bone issues with the radium group and 11 for the placebo group.

So is Radium Treatment For Prostate Cancer the best way to go?  It all depends on your situation, and your doctor.  Just make sure that you listen to doctor recommendations, and then go home and do your own research.  You are more likely to understand what is going on and what will happen, if you read up on it yourself.  The good lord knows that should the day come when my husband has to get treatment, I will be ready to go with all my research!
